These little pastry turnovers have their origin in the fatay, an Arab dish. In Spain the dish is known as Galician Empanadas. It is likely that the empanadas in the Americas were originally introduced from Galicia Spain, where an empanada is prepared similar to a pie that is cut into pieces, making it a portable and hearty meal for working people. In Argentina and Uruguay, the empanadas are considered to be a national dish, and they have a protagonist role in the local cuisine.
Our little savoury turnovers are packed full of flavoursome fillings all gathered together in a lightly seasoned pastry. Fantastic finger food that is suitable for platters, canapés or a lighter alternative to the Samosa snack. |
